Day 4

June 14th, 2007 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

This morning we presented our group work in the computer lab. There were presentations on Smartboards, Graphics and Comic Strips, Audio Podcasting and iMovie. We were presented with lots of interesting writing and technology ideas that we could use in our classrooms. I am excited to try the Audcity Tutorial. I hope this will be easy to catch on.

All groups did an excellent job on their projects for such a short week.

I am also liking all the new technology terms throughout this week.

This morning was very beneficial to me with learning more on movie maker.  Lisa Craig took us on a step by step demonstration tour on how to create a movie maker project.  Lisa allowed time for individual questions as she was showing us steps.   The most important thing I learned about movie maker was that when you are 100% sure your movie is finished, you need to save (RENDER) your movie.  A light bulb went off in my mind as Lisa was showing us this  “RENDER” thing and then showed us the difference  between the two icons.   The icon with a colored movie reel means that your movie is not 100% finished  and that you still want to work on it.  The blue filmstrip icon means that your movie is 100%  finished and RENDERED.   At this point,  I realized that when I took a digital story telling class earlier this year with Valorie Stokes that this must be the reason why our projects did not email or burn to a CD correctly for her.  I know I did not “RENDER” my project when I was finished.  In fact thanks to LIsa I am 100% sure I did not RENDER that project to give to Valorie.  Thanks to Lisa, I have learned the difference between the two icons (the movie reel and the blue movie strip) and how important it is to RENDER and save correctly.

Thanks Lisa Craig for showing us Movie Maker with Patience!

To Blog or Not to Blog…HMMMM?

“To Blog or not to Blog,” that is the question for this week. As of Monday, June11, 2007 10:30 a.m. I am thinking not to use blogging in my fourth grade classroom. I feel that blogging may be better in a high school or college classroom envirnoment rather than my 4th grade classroom. As of today, I feel that my fourth grades will see this more as a social game rather than a serious class discussion board. How will they know how to critique out loud on this board in a proper way? On a postive note, I do feel that if they were told that their writing assignments would have to be posted on the blogging board, then they would take their writing more serious as an authenic writing. I am still weary on the age of blogging and the curriculum allowing me the time to do this.

One other problem I see in getting this blogging going in the classroom. It would be be the “jumping” through the ropes with our technology guys (TMC) in our district. I feel that I don’t have enough data and research or confidence in myself to try to convince our technology people to un-block this site to use in my classroom. I need to feel 100% in order to fight for something I really want. Hopefully by the end of this week, I will have more of this knowledge.

Spicy Raving Red

by:  Anne I.

Yesterday, I was just plain ole’ Anne; cautious, a  follower, and stressed.

This morning, I’ve become Spicy Raving Red; daring, adventurous, and stress – free.

The more I think about it, I would like to be Anne with an “e.”

Happy ole’ Anne with an “e,” who wishes she was  stress free!

Hello world!
